Psalms 55:22

King James Translation: ”Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Message Bible Translation: “Pile your troubles on God’s shoulders. He’ll carry your load, he’ll help you out. He’ll never let good people topple into ruin.

A couple of months ago, I was talking to a good friend of mine and she was sharing with me her life challenges and how they were affecting her health and mental stability. As we began to go further in the conversation, she revealed to me that she was depressed. For the last two years she had been living paycheck to paycheck. Despite readjusted her lifestyle, she was unable to pay her bills on time. She was stressed because she was unable to save because she barely made enough money to take care of herself and her children. She had taken on another job and as a result things that she needed to monitor in her personal life were slipping into chaos. She asked me “what can I do”? Reflecting on the times me and my family experienced debt and lack, I told her what God told me “THE WEIGHT YOU ARE CARRYING IS TO HEAVY. LET IT GO!” When I said that to her she begin to break down in tears and asked me “how do I do that?” I shared with her my testimony and quoted Psalms 55:22.

I am writing this devotional on a Friday. Friday for most people around the world is payday. For some people, payday is a depressing day because it is a reminder of the lack in their lives. When lack resides in a person’s life, it presses down like a suffocating weight; embarrassment, helplessness and depression, are some of the feelings that arrest the mind and leave a person feeling trapped. There are many of us that have experienced the same life challenges. There  maybe someone reading this devotional that is facing a life challenge right now.

God understands the troubles we face. God sees the injustice and he wants to save us but we must give our obedience to God. When we give our obedience to God, it tells God we are now ready to do things his way. When we cast our burdens on God, we are saying I trust you. Most people will spend a life time being worldly independent and never experience the victory of being Godly dependent. They carry the stress that comes with being worldly independent and they grow sick physically, mentally and spiritually. All the while, God is saying “give the weight to me”. Sadly, they are unable to hear God because God’s voice is blocked by the troubles of life (the weight). Life doesn’t have to be this way!

Here is 4 ways to get rid of the weight:

1.Let God take control – Admit that your ways and method are wrong and God’s ways and methods are right.

2.Acknowledge the problem without speaking negative words – Some people make the mistake of speaking death over their lives. Instead of having a positive outlook, they assume the worst will happen.  They speak negative words and wait for it to happen. Remember what the Bible says about what we speak.

Proverbs 18:21 “death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

3.Transfer your problems to God through prayerTell God all about your problems. Don’t leave out any details. Tell God how it’s affecting you and what you need him to do. Never blame God for your troubles. God wants the best for us.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

4.Believe and trust God to take care of the matter When you conclude your prayer don’t allow yourself, other people or what you see to influence your emotions. Keep your focus on what God’s word says. Sometimes, this is hard to do! In the place of complaints, negative responses and fear, speak the word of God.  Seek out and memorize scriptures that speak to your situation and remind you what God is able to do.

This is how you get the weight off of you! Oh Yes, I almost forgot!  My friend that I was talking about in the beginning of this devotional, the day we prayed together, she re-committed her life to Christ. Over a period of time, she received a promotion on her day job with a 10,000 dollar pay increase. Also, one of the bills she was struggling to pay were lowered. Furthermore, she was made aware of services she was eligible for and was able to eliminate a major financial expense in her household. She quit her second job and now has more time for her children. Finally, her home is no longer a stressful environment. Whatever, you are facing that has you weighed down, God wants you to give it to him. Get rid of the weight!

Love You,
