Independently Loss vs. Dependently Secured

During my prayer time, I asked God to give me a word that I can share with you for this week's Kingdom Agenda. As I was sitting in my office at work, the Holy Spirit asked me a question, “what would you rather be, independent or dependent?” I pose the same question to you! Before you answer that, let me share with you the definitions.

Here are two definitions for Independent:

1. not dependent; not depending or contingent upon something else for existence, operation, etc.

2. not influenced or controlled by others in matters of opinion, conduct, etc.; thinking or acting for oneself: an independent thinker.

Now, let's look at the definition of Dependent! I will give you 3 definitions:

1. relying on someone or something else for aid, support, etc.

2. conditioned or determined by something else; contingent upon: ex: Our trip is dependent on the weather.

3. subordinate to.

If you look at both definitions (Independent vs. Dependent), you can guess that my answer to the Holy Spirit was dependent. If you guessed that, YOU WERE WRONG!!! I switched my answer after I discovered what the two words meant. J

Here is the deal! God never created us to exist independent of Him. God doesn't even exist independent of Himself! God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one; one meaning they act and move exactly the same. There is no division in thought, movement or response.

The following scriptures in the Bible tells us this:

Genesis 1:26 “And God said, Let us make man…

John 14:9 – 20 “Jesus responds to Phillip's question, show us the Father

Mathew 11:27 “All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man know the Son, but the Father; neither know any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.”

All of the above scriptures show that when it comes to our salvation God chooses not to work alone! God operates through relationships.

The world lives by the philosophy of being independent. However, God doesn't want us to be independent of Him. God wants us to know that He is the source of our strength, wealth and all that we need. Does that mean God wants to control us? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! God wants us to know who we are. God want to mature us.

We say that we raise our children to be independent. However, we aren't raising our children to be independent. We are actually raising our children to be Mature.

Here is the definition of Mature.

1. complete in natural growth or development

2. fully developed in body or mind, as a person

Here is the deal! God doesn't want to control us. Instead, as a parent, God wants to teach us. GOD WANTS TO MATURE US! Children are immature. They don't have life experiences. They are naïve to the world's way. As the Children of God, we are naïve to God's ways. So the question is “why do we need to know God's way”. The answer is simple! That's who you are!

Psalm 82:6 ” I have said , Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High”

When you don't know who you are, you are a slave to the world and cannot access the power of God. If you don't know yourself the way God knows you, the thing God created you to rule will continue to rule you! You will be a slave to what you were create to be a master over. If you do not see yourself as God sees you, you will buy into the worlds lie that you are inferior to God and that is how God sees you. The truth is God created you to be a god and you are God's child (Psalm 82:6).  When you accept that truth, you will stop trying to prove yourself to everyone. You will begin to look for God's approval rather than chase after man's approval. You will be comfortable in your own skin!

This is what the Bible says:

Galatians 4:1 – 3 “Now I say, That the heir, as long as *he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:”

If life is hard for you right now, check to see if your living it on your own. Do you consult God in everything you do? Or, are you making decisions on your own and expecting God to sanction every single one.

Proverbs 16:25 “There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death”

The reality is this, “if you haven't given God complete control of your life, God is not present in your life”. If you want God to abide in you, you have to abide in him. Make Jesus Lord and you will abide in God and God in you! Make God's word the foundation of everything in your life. Then you will begin to experience the fruit that God intended you to have. Godly Dependency is great!
