Sticks & Stones

Pastor Lawrence & Celeste_Cropped

When I was in elementary school, there was nursery rhyme we would sing to combat statements that were intended to hurt our feeling. It went like this…

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”

As I began to grow in the Word Of God, I found that this was far from the truth. The bible says in Proverbs 18:21

“Death and Life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”. If that wasn’t clear enough, the Message Bible translation says “words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit you choose.

Words are the most powerful weapon mankind has at its disposal. Words can sentence a man to death and on the other hand pardon a man of all criminal charges. Words can make a child believe that they are the most important person in the world and on the other hand make a child feel like they are nothing. Words can set a person’s heart on fire by telling them “

I love you and you are the only love of my life” and on the other hand break a person’s heart by saying ”I feel this relationship is moving too fast and I think it would be good for the both of us to see other people.”

Words communicate policies that defines the life quality of an individual living in a democracy while another person lives in a dictatorship where free speech and thinking is forbidden. THERE IS POWER IN OUR WORDS.
What we speak shapes our world. Are you in a place where it seems nothing good works out for you? When you desire a particular outcome are you saying “
if it happen” instead of “when it happens”? Do make statements like “nothing good ever happens for me”?
If this is how you speak without thinking, YOU HAVE A LANGUAGE PROBLEM AND IT’S CREATING A WORLD YOU DON’T WANT TO LIVE IN. I encourage you to take some thought in listening to what you are speaking over your life, your children, your dreams, your goals and anything that impacts your life. The success of your life is not dependent upon how well you speak but more so what you speak. In every situation speak the Word Of God. In battle, you want to make sure you are using the most reliable weapon. There is nothing more powerful than God’s word. God is his word (see John 1:1)!
So, speak the Word of God over your life and believe in faith that God will bring it to pass. You will see God changing your situation to work in your favor. You will never be defeated by Satan. Always remember your words is your creating power. It is your God like character that defines who you belong to (God or Satan).
My friends I can go on speaking about the power of Words but I must end. However, I will leave you with this,

it is not situations or people that define you instead it is your faith and word.

Hebrew 11:3 “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear”.

Speak the Word of God and live in victory!

Love you Pastor Lawrence
